Crustless Cheese Pie (Tiropita Without Phyllo)

A savory Cheesepie without crust, aka No Phyllo Tiropita, with feta cheese, Greek yogurt, sesame seeds, and plenty of olive oil.

Ingredients

  • 150 grams (⅔ cup) Greek yogurt
  • 200 ml Buttermilk or sourmilk
  • 180 ml water
  • 120 ml olive oil + extra for the pan
  • 2 large eggs
  • 220 grams (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 100 grams (½ cup + 2 tablespoons) corn flour / maize flour not cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • 350 grams (12.3 ounces) feta cheese coarsely crumbled
  • sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180°C / 355°F.
  • Combine dry ingredients in a bowl (flour, corn flour, baking powder, and salt).
  • Whisk together eggs and yogurt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the olive oil, water, and Buttermilk and whisk to combine.
  • Mix in the dry ingredients gradually until uniform.
  • Stir in the feta cheese.
  • Add a good splash of olive oil, and brush to coat the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan (23 x 33 cm).
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds enough to coat the bottom surface of the pan.
  • Add the cheese pie batter and spread evenly.
  • Drizzle with olive oil on top and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until honey-browned on top.
  • Cool for 30 minutes.
  • Cut into 12 square pieces and serve!
